With devices running iPadOS and later, PDF Reader enables you to open PDFs using multiple windows. Here is how:
Step1: Enable the “Tabbed Reading” mode
- Launch the PDF Reader iPad app (Only available for iPad)
- Switch to the “Settings” tab in PDF Reader
- Enable “Tabbed PDF Reading” mode to turn on the feature
Step2: Turn tabs into new windows
- Tap and hold on one tab, and then drag it off the tab bar
- The tab will turn into a new window
- You could read PDFs through multiple windows using Split View and Slide Over

Split View
- Drag the window until the screen splits into two
- Then you can read two different documents side by side in Split View
- You can resize the window by dragging the divider in the middle of the screen

Slide Over
To turn a Split View into a Slide Over, simply swipe down from the top of the window
- You can have one of the windows in a floating pane or add multiple windows to slide over
- Swipe up from the bottom of the pane to switch between windows
